No, not usually. You will be prescribed with antibiotics if your sore throat is causing or has developed into a bacterial infection. When you visit your local Allied Pharmacy, a pharmacist will be able to determine if this line of treatment is suitable for your condition.
If your condition and symptoms begin to worsen, after seeing a pharmacist and taking the recommended treatment, we advise you to speak to a GP.
If you are experiencing symptoms such as intense pain, a fever or nausea and vomiting, your sore throat may be caused by a bacterial infection. A pharmacist will be able to assess your symptoms and provide you with relief.
