About this service

What is the Lateral Flow Tests service? 

Provided at our pharmacies, is the lateral flow tests service. When you visit your local Allied Pharmacy, you can speak to a pharmacist and request access to a lateral flow test. 

Our team require a few personal details before you are given the test, so they can determine whether you are exempt from payment. 

The details needed are: 

  • Full Name 
  • Address 
  • Date of Birth  
  • Medical Condition 

 

What does the test involve? 

Once you have given us your personal details, you will be able to acquire one box containing 5 LFD (lateral flow device) tests. 

A member of staff will advise you on how to safely take the test, so you can receive optimal results. However, you can also find instructions and directions for use - on the enclosed information sheet (if you choose to take the test at home).  

 

Who is eligible for a free test? 

Not every patient is eligible for a free lateral flow test. Therefore, those who do not meet the criteria will be required to pay for the service. 

However, the list of individuals who can access this service for free are:  

  • Individuals over the age of 12 years old and at risk of a serious case of Covid-19 
  • Works in a healthcare setting or in a hospice  
  • Has a health condition such as Down’s syndrome, chronic kidney disease, HIV, AIDS or a condition that affects the immune system
  • People aged 85 years and over 
  • People with end-stage heart failure who have long-term ventricular assistance device 
  • People on the organ transplant waiting list 
  • Residents in a care home who are aged 70 years and over 
  • Residents in a care home who have a BMI of 35 kg/m2 or more 
  • Residents in a care home who have diabetes 
  • Residents in a care home who have heart failure 
  • People currently in hospital who are aged 70 years or more 
  • People currently in hospital who have a BMI of 35 kg/m2 or more 
  • People currently in hospital who have diabetes  
  • People currently in hospital who have heart failure 

*When in-store, we advise you to speak to a pharmacist, as they can provide you with an extensive list of health conditions - applicable for this free service. 

 

Why is this service important? 

The purpose of the lateral flow tests service is to provide imminent and safe testing for Covid-19. Visiting your local Allied Pharmacy for this service prevents the unknown spread of Covid-19 and protects others from developing serious symptoms of this illness.  

 

Can I collect a Lateral Flow Test on behalf of someone? 

You can collect a test on behalf of another, such as a friend, relative or carer. However, a member of the team will need you to provide the following details based on the person you are visiting for: 

  • Full Name  
  • Address 
  • Date of Birth  
  • NHS number  
  • Medical condition or conditions to confirm their eligibility 

 

What should I do after taking the test? 

If your result is positive, after taking the lateral flow test, we advise you contact your GP surgery, NHS 111 or a hospital specialist. This is so they can assess your situation and determine whether you are in need of further evaluation or treatment.
