What is ear microsuction?

Ear microsuction is a procedure where ear wax is removed using a small vacuum to gently remove stubborn ear wax. At Allied Pharmacies, our service is completely painless and can be completed in just 30 minutes. If you are experiencing a build-up of ear wax that is causing uncomfortable symptoms, we can help!

How does the microsuction machine work?

When you come to your appointment at one of your nearest Allied Pharmacies, our team will use an endoscopic microsuction device. This device is provided by Clear Clinics and is used to gently and precisely remove earwax from your ear.

Are there any side effects from ear microsuction?

Our procedures for ear wax removal are conducted by a professional - which is the safest way for ear wax to be removed. However, here are some potential side effects that can happen from microsuction

  • Grazing in the ear canal due to the skin becoming sensitive
  • Dizziness because of the cool air from the microsuction
  • Coughing can occur as the nerve that causes the throat to cough lies close to the ear canal
  • Discomfort if you are having the procedure due to an infection

What do I need to do before-and-after my appointment?

In preparation for your appointment, begin to soften the ear wax in your ears using olive oil. For optimal results, our expert team suggests Earol spray. You should complete this process two to three days before the procedure and apply twice a day.

To prevent any infection occurring (post treatment), our team will advise you to keep your ears dry for the next 24 hours. This includes avoiding water getting into your ears whilst bathing, showering, or swimming. Further prevention includes fortnightly spraying your ear with olive oil to stop a build-up of compacted ear wax in the ear canal.

What is the difference between ear syringing vs microsuction?

Ear syringing (otherwise known as ear irrigation) is the process of flushing ear wax out of your ear with water. However, this service is not as safe as ear microsuction. Whilst both procedures are conducted by professionals, ear irrigation can potentially cause an infection, which would require further treatment. At Allied Pharmacies, we offer the safest and most effective service for ear wax cleaning!

What causes earwax to build up?
There are many causes for earwax build up, however this can happen is you have narrow ear canals, damaged ear canals, excessive hair growth in your ear canal, inflammation of your ear canal or a skin condition that affects your scalp or the area around your ear.
You may experience hearing loss, earache, a sensation of blocked ears, tinnitus or vertigo when dealing with a build-up of earwax.
